A lot of people are saying they are "effectively insolvent" but the only reason they are cash poor is because they spent $930M to buy back early investors. The question is, when will the businesses that use Groupon stop joining the fad? To me, it sounds like a "get in, get out" kind of situation. Get the IPO rolling, then cash out. They will most likely do better than the $6B that Google offered. Makes sense when you’re trying to start a $30B IPO.
